Teri Hatcher not dating George Clooney23 May 2006 Teri Hatcher is being complimented by many for talking about her past of sexual abuse. Her reflections for a Vanity Fair interview were inspired by a recent breakup with a unnamed Mystery Man.
In the candid interview Hatcher explained that she was sexually abused by an uncle, he is now in jail.
The star of Desperate Housewives was romantically linked to Hollywood bachelor George Clooney, but both sides deny the rumors.
"The debacle with Mystery Man ... made the parallels between her romantic failures and the legacy of her sexual abuse seem too obvious to ignore," writes VF's Leslie Bennetts in the cover story.
Since the story came out Clooney has talked about how much he respects Hatcher and explains that she did a brave thing.
"It is to Teri's credit that she's telling a very courageous story to help others," said Clooney. "As for the tabloid part of the story, she would never say that. I know the story is attractive, but it isn't true and it takes away from her brave decision."
In addition to being good friends Hatcher and Clooney are also neighbors and they were rumored to be romantically involved earlier this year, again both sides say they are nothing more than good friends.
"It is truly a shame that the importance of the issue in the Vanity Fair article is being obscured by tabloid sensationalism," explained Hatcher. "[The New York Post] has twisted this story into a scandalous report about my personal life, which has nothing to do with George Clooney."
